VALENTINES DAY ROSES AND THEIR MEANINGS

Valentines Day is often accompanied by the delivery of roses, but often people send the wrong color and imply, “I love you,” instead of, “your an appreciated friend.”  You can still honor the tradition of sending Valentine’s Day flowers without confusion, so long as you educate yourself on their meanings first.

The meanings of roses may catch you by surprise, as some seemingly harmless yellow roses may be misinterpreted when sent to a friend.  For instance, did you know that yellow roses with red tips mean something completely different than yellow roses on their own?

While not everyone considers the meaning behind the beauty, some do.  It’s best to know the meanings of roses before you send them — for Valentines Day or any other occasion.

Red:”I love you” – Passion
It’s common knowledge that red roses are the symbol of love – and no flower or gift  says “I love you” better.  The color red is also know for symbolizing beauty, respect, sincere romantic love, passion and courage.  In certain circumstances outside of Valentines Day and romantic personal gestures, red can also mean congratulations.


Yellow: “I care about you, friend” – Joy
Modern times attach the yellow rose to friendship, happiness, joy and freedom.  Yellow roses may also be given in remembrance, to signify a new beginning  or as a welcome back gesture.  Sending yellow roses is a great way to honor any kind of relationship.  In Victorian times, however, yellow roses symbolized jealousy – today it is no longer recognized that way.

Also known as sunset roses, the beauty of them is timeless and tells the special individual in your life that you are falling in love with them.  Yellow roses with red tips mean that you want more than friendship.  The distinction between these sunset roses and traditional yellow roses something to commit to memory.

Pink: “Thank you” – Sweet Thoughts
Perfect for a friend that you want to honor on Valentine’s Day.  Deep pink roses show appreciation, grace, and gratitude; send light pink roses for admiration, gentleness and sympathy.


White:  “I am the one for you” - Spiritual Love and Purity
A traditional flower of weddings, you can still mix it up on Valentines Day by sending your special Valentine some white roses – a symbol of true love, innocence and purity.

Red and White Together: “We are a great match” – Unity
Red and white roses in a mixed bouquet or arrangement  signify unity with your Valentine.

Orange/Coral: “I want you in my life” – Passionate Desire
Orange and coral roses primarily relays passion. The color signifies to the receiver: desire, enthusiasm, and fascination – both in personal relationships and business.

Lavender: “Love at First Sight” – Enchantment
Whether to signify love at first sight, or simply that the receiver has made a special impression, lavender roses represent enchantment to any degree.

Peach: “Let’s make this a memorable Valentine’s Day” - Appreciation
Peach roses are the ones to chooses if you truly appreciate your Valentine and simply want to say, “let’s get together,”" in a meaningful way.  A rich peach color symbolizes “closing the deal”, sincerity, and “let’s get together”, while pale peach roses signify modesty.
